The Lovesong series came out of one of the most tender passages of my life. My son had just moved into his first apartment in the city and I felt the distance stretch in a new way. Before I picked up a brush I had done a deep somatic release, and what poured out was everything I had been holding...the love and the grief of letting go. I cried throughout the making of every painting in this series.

Lovesong I is the most gestural of the series. The marks are forceful and unguarded, love expressed with everything I had. The joy of watching your child launch into the world and the ache of releasing them at the same time. I hope when you stand in front of this painting you understand that feeling. The extraordinary weight of loving someone that much.
