LOVESONG II
36'' x 48''
Acrylic on Canvas
The Lovesong series came out of one of the most tender passages of my life. My son had just moved into his first apartment in the city and I felt the distance stretch in a new way. Before I picked up a brush I had done a deep somatic release, and what poured out was everything I had been holding. The love. The grief. The letting go.
I had never painted in red before. I reached for it by instinct and it was the right choice. The red oxide is deep and serious, because the feelings were. The expressive brushstrokes carry the full weight of that emotion, unfiltered and unguarded. All my hopes for him, all my love, all my wishes that he would always have people in his corner, pressed into every mark.
