The Lovesong series came out of one of the most tender passages of my life. My son had just moved into his first apartment in the city and I felt the distance stretch in a new way. Before I picked up a brush I had done a deep somatic release, and what poured out afterward was everything I had been holding. The love. The grief. The letting go.

I chose blue for this one. It felt right for him. In the marks and layers I was reaching for something beyond myself, calling for support from above to help me be the best mother I could be. I was painting all my hopes for him into the canvas. That he would always have strength at his back. That love would always shine down on him. That the bond between us would hold no matter the distance.
