The Lovesong series came out of one of the most tender passages of my life. My son had just moved into his first apartment in the city and I felt the distance stretch in a new way. Before I picked up a brush I had done a deep somatic release, and what poured out was everything I had been holding...the love and the grief of letting go. I cried throughout the making of every painting in this series.

By the time I reached Lovesong VI something had shifted. The emotions were still just as real but they were no longer pouring out all at once. The marks became softer and less urgent. Soft blues and warm taupe moving together in imperfect shapes. I was still painting all my hopes for him, still calling for support from above to surround him and carry him forward. Acceptance was starting to find its way in.
