The Lovesong series came out of one of the most tender passages of my life. My son had just moved into his first apartment in the city and I felt the distance stretch in a new way. Before I picked up a brush I had done a deep somatic release, and what poured out was everything I had been holding. The love. The grief. The letting go. I cried throughout the making of every painting in this series.

Lovesong X is the last in the series. The pink, red oxide and the unexpected burst of yellow came together in a way that felt right for a closing. By this point I had painted it all out. Every feeling poured onto canvas. This painting is a reminder that no matter the distance, no matter the change, love always remains.
