The horizon line has always fascinated me. It captures something about the vastness of the world, how much is out there beyond what we can see.

In this painting the horizon line is the anchor while the pale blue and sandy tones breaking through build texture all around it.

I wanted a serene seascape with warmth in the palette and this was also a return to where I started. My earliest paintings were made entirely with a palette knife and this one brought me back to that. The texture you see comes from that tool building color up in layers across the canvas.
