The horizon line has always fascinated me. It captures something about the vastness of the world, how much is out there beyond what we can see.

In this painting it’s the anchor. The pale blue, the sandy tones breaking through, the texture all build around it.

I wanted a serene seascape with warmth in the palette and this was also a return to where I started. My earliest paintings were made entirely with a palette knife and this one brought me back to that. The texture you see comes from that tool, built up in layers across the canvas.
