I live at the beach and I watch the water every day. The way the ocean and sky form stripes that shift throughout the day never stops fascinating me. The Striation series came out of that.

I started wanting to make a soft seascape with that striped quality and enjoyed the process so much I kept going. Nine paintings in all, each one a variation. Some stay close to what you’d see from the shore. Others abstract it further.

The process is different from my other work. Smooth, deliberate horizontal strokes built up in layers. Color drives everything here. I mix carefully to find combinations that feel exactly right together.
