Living by the water with the vast open sky above it, I am constantly aware of how much space surrounds us. The intention of this painting was immersion. The range of blues, from the deepest navy to the brightest open blue, was built up deliberately with layers of brushwork to create something you can fall into rather than just look at. This is not a painting of the sky. It is a painting of what it feels like to be inside it.
