SECRET DOORWAY
48" x 48"
Acrylic on Canvas
When I was 10 years old my family lived in a 200 year old home on four acres of land. There was a well on the property with a trap door at the bottom that led into a tunnel connecting to the house. There was a bocce court my father iced over in winter for skating, a lush pear tree, and blackberry bushes everywhere. I was fascinated by that tunnel as a child and still am.
This painting has two doorways that your eye can connect and imagine the tunnel between them. I approached it the way I do my seascapes, building up many layers of color to give it a mystical quality that matches the memory.
