The underpainting on this was bold and colorful and I loved it. Covering it with white gestural strokes was a deliberate risk. There is bravery required in being willing to lose something you love in a painting. I blasted music to push past that fear and let the brush move. What came through underneath still lives in the painting, visible in the areas where the white breaks and the color shows.

I worked with brushes and palette knife throughout. You can watch the moment I made that decision in the video clip.
